DDDC AWARDS £3,750 TO VILLAGE HALL FOR NEW GROUND FLOOR ROOF

Derbyshire Dales District Council (DDDC) has awarded £3,750 towards the cost of a new ground floor roof for Tansley Village Hall.

Village Hall Committee Secretary Chris Knightley said: "We are very grateful to DDDC for its continued support following its grant of £2,000 in 2009 for the toilet and entrance rebuilding, when other sources of funding are so difficult to find. We are now very close to meeting the likely cost of the new, insulated ground floor roof. We hope that everyone will continue to support our fundraising events as there is still a great deal more work to the hall ahead that we need to fund."

VEOLIA BID UNSUCCESSFUL
BUT "WHERE THERE'S A WILL THERE'S A WAY"!

Tansley Village Hall Committee reports its disappointment at hearing that its application to Veolia Environmental Trust for a grant of £50,000 was unsuccessful.

Tansley Village Hall's application was one of many turned down, but Veolia gave no details as to why. A formal letter received by the committee implies that, owing to the number of rejections, no further details will be forthcoming.

Commenting on the outcome, Village Hall Committee chairman Ruth Cooper said:

"This does feel like a setback but we all remain committed to the project. We couldn't have got where we are today without the tremendous support we have had from the community; we would like to thank everyone who has contributed, either by organising events or attending them.

"I strongly believe in 'where there's a will there's a way', and with that in mind we have already identified other potential sources of funding and are in the process of putting more applications together
. Most are for smaller sums than the WREN and Veolia bids but they all add up.

Tansley Village Hall

Restoration Project

New window fitted in Village Hall on 28th February 2012

As part of the renovation and modernisation of Tansley Village Hall, a superb new double-glazed window was fitted on 28th February. Being cream-painted aluminium it will last for many decades to come and is completely maintenance-free and draught-free as well as more energy-efficient. The Village Hall Committee is extremely grateful to have received an anonymous private donation for this major improvement.

Now that the window has been renewed we are able to proceed, as our next priority, with expensive replastering and repainting of the whole of the main hall. We have sufficient funds to do this thanks to the recent £5,000 donation from Tansley Parish Council, other donations and fundraising in the community and to another local donor who has generously promised to pay for all the paint needed.

In due course, when sufficient funds have been raised, we will be able to replace the other windows and the upper room's roof.

TANSLEY PARISH COUNCIL GIVES A FURTHER £5,000 TO THE VILLAGE HALL
On request from Tansley Village Hall Committee, Tansley Parish Council, at its public meeting on 19th October, generously awarded a further £5,000 to help towards the cost of renovating the interior of the main hall for the benefit of our community. This work includes a new double-glazed window, re-painting the ceiling, re-plastering and re-painting the walls, woodwork, radiators and doors, fitting new curtains and renovating the floor.

Once this is done the committee plans to replace all the remaining windows, decorate the remaining rooms and replace the upper room's roof. As all this work is likely to cost around £55,000, there is still much fund-raising to do to make it possible.

Village Hall's downstairs rooms have reopened

Ground floor now has new roof!

The replacement of the Village Hall's ground floor roof is complete, and the Hall reopened on schedule on Monday 5th September 2011.

Now the Village Hall Committee will be able to turn its attention to the many other renovations required, including re-plastering and redecoration in the main hall and kitchen, replacing the windows and re-covering the upper room's roof.

The Restoration Project - Stage One

Stage One (Part A) of the Village Hall Restoration Project, completed in October 2010, made the following improvements:
  • demolished, rebuilt and enlarged the subsided toilet extension (reusing the existing facing gritstone and most of the internal fittings), giving a well located DDA-compliant toilet for disabled users, two extra ladies' WCs and wash basins, a men's WC, two urinals and wash basins. It uses skylights, rather than windows, for natural light and strong security;
  • provided a remodelled, universal front access with a new outward-opening door (with vision panel), a sloped approach (without steps) and a wider internal doorway to meet fire exit safety standards and to provide excellent access for both wheelchair users and able-bodied people.

Stage One (Part B) of the Village Hall Restoration Project, completed in September 2011, made the following improvements:

  • replaced the old, continually leak-prone ground floor roof with new slates and underfelt, renewed fascias, flashing, gutters and downpipes (all in durable aluminium) to prevent damp, and replaced rotten or damaged rafters;
  • applied roof insulation for the first time (to save energy);
  • added skylights with self-cleaning glass and blinds towards the rear of the main hall to increase natural light (and save energy) and to create a lighter and more attractive space.

ASHBY FUND AWARDS £1,000 FOR VILLAGE HALL ROOF

Derbyshire Community Foundation, from the Ashby Fund, has awarded £1,000 towards the cost of a new ground floor roof for Tansley Village Hall.

Village Hall Committee Secretary Chris Knightley said: "We are very grateful to Derbyshire Community Foundation for the £1,000 grant (the maximum available from the Ashby Fund). This shows continued, strong support from DCF following its (maximum) grant of £5,000 in 2009 for the toilet and entrance rebuilding. Despite competition from many other funding requests, the DCF were impressed by our project, the use made of the hall and the level of fundraising that has been done.”

TANSLEY PARISH COUNCIL GIVES £10,000 TO TANSLEY VILLAGE HALL RESTORATION

In 2007, through its Village Plan , Tansley Parish Council pledged financial help towards the high cost of restoring the Village Hall. In March 2009, the Council set aside £10,000 for this purpose, as shown on Tansley Village Hall Committee's fund-raising piggy above. Following its meeting last Wednesday, 24th November 2010, the Council released this money to the Committee to help to fund the replacement of the ground floor roof. This will complete Stage 1 of the Restoration Project . The Council said that it appreciates the Committee's hard work so far in raising funds and getting the ground floor toilet facilities and entrance rebuilt.

The Village Hall Committee is very grateful to Tansley Parish Council. It also looks forward to continuing help from the community in raising the rest of the funds needed for the roof and lots more future restoration and modernisation work. Once the roof is replaced, long-awaited replastering and redecoration will become possible.

TANSLEY VILLAGE HALL WINS £5,000 GRANT FROM DERBYSHIRE COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The Village Hall Committee has received written confirmation of the award of £5,000 (the maximum possible grant) from Derbyshire Community Foundation for the rebuilding and enlargement of the toilet extension and the new, fully accessible front entrance. This is the Village Hall Committee's Stage 1a Restoration Project starting on 12th July, as announced in March.

Derbyshire Community Foundation said "Despite the limited funds and strong competition, the panel were very supportive of your application. They felt that the Village Hall is an important facility in the village" and is well used."They liked that you had split the restoration work into smaller manageable projects that the committee can aim towards as a longer term goal."

After many applications for larger sums, the Village Hall Committee is very pleased and encouraged to have received this maximum award from a Derbyshire funder. It brings the total of awards from all external funders to £11,000. All of this money will go towards the cost of the Stage 1a project, this summer.
